We’re incredibly proud to see our co-founder, Ryan Hume CMgr FCMI, recognised as the CMI Chartered Manager of the Week!
Ryan’s journey from military service to Managing Director at Hive Infrastructure is a testament to his dedication to leadership and personal growth. His commitment to developing key skills like empathy and ethical management aligns perfectly with the values we champion at Hive.
At Hive Infrastructure, we're passionate about supporting individuals transitioning from the military into the project management industry. Developing leadership and project management skills in this space reflects our core belief in integrity, professionalism, and continuous growth.
Congratulations Ryan!
Ryan spent six years in the military, joining straight after GCSEs. On leaving, he felt he needed to gain formal accreditation in management. His first step was to use a 360-degree review to assess his management skills. Although he scored highly in most areas, he scored low for empathy.
“It shocked me actually,” he admits. “But as the tool requires insight from colleagues at all levels, I realised it was something I had to address, so I started to explore it.“
Before CMI, I would deal with things in a certain way. On one occasion, I remember there was a contractual dispute and I had to reprioritise work and resources. I had to tell my team where I was allocating the resources and therefore who wouldn’t be allocated any. I don’t think it went down too well. I see now that I didn’t deliver the message in a very empathetic way.”
Ryan’s journey with CMI has helped him identify areas for development. His focus as a manager now aligns with CMI’s ethical management practices and he’s passionate about nurturing a growth mindset for himself and his team.
“Becoming Chartered has elevated my career. It’s helped me refine my strategic thinking and reinforced values of professionalism and ethical leadership. Crucially, it’s given me the confidence and framework to lead with integrity and drive lasting change.”
